It seems like we’re forever keeping one eye on our weight. The moment we gain so much as a few pounds, we cut back on sweet treats and skip meals. We berate ourselves for fluctuations. We say no to our favourite foods for fear of the slight increase in our waists. And, for the most part, it doesn’t make one jot of difference. You can cut out as many foods as you want, and you can bet your weight will still go up and down.
Our bodies are changing all the time, and that’s something you need to get used to. It’s not unusual to gain two pounds through the day and lose it overnight. While we do need to watch what we eat, dieting isn’t going to do anyone any good in these instances. By putting too much pressure on such small changes, you’re going to make yourself miserable. Know your base weight
First, know your base weight. This is a weight which is normal and healthy for you, and it’s probably the weight you land at most often. While this can increase with age, the chances are that you’ll spend most of your adult life around the same area. So, get to know your base weight if you don’t already. Weigh yourself throughout a month, and make a note of where you most typically end up. That way, you know roughly which area you should be in. This frees you up to spot any worrying gains without going wild at every change.
Find ways to feel good on your larger days
Once you know your base weight, you’ll come to see that you’re larger on some days of the month than others. You’ll also start to notice how the food you ate the day before can lead to weight gain in the short-term. Once you’re able to stop panicking, you can focus on making yourself feel fabulous even when you’re at the higher end of your scale. It might be that you have a dress which always makes you feel slim. They could see you practicing self-love no matter if you gain a few pounds.
Stop weighing so often
As we’ve already stated, bodies change throughout the day. They vary depending on everything from diet to timing. With that in mind, there’s really no need to weigh yourself every morning when you wake up. If you fixate on that, you’re going to stress over every little change. Don’t do it. Instead, get into the habit of weighing yourself no more than once a week. This frees you up to keep an eye on things without stressing about the small everyday changes which are nothing to worry about.
