Raise Your Glass To A More Confident You

There aren’t many people in the world who can look in the mirror and feel totally satisfied by their appearance. I know it’s something I struggled with in my younger years, I have crooked teeth, and I always felt like my face was a weird shape, my hair is crazy and I have always battled with my weight. It’s not that I didn’t like they way I looked, or who I was, it’s just that sometimes it can take a while to learn to love what you see.

Many out there hold how they look as part of feeling confident, but even the most beautiful people feel insecure and unsure of themselves sometimes. The key to good confidence? Knowing who you are, what you look like and every single day telling yourself, ‘that’s okay, I am enough”.

Being comfortable with who you are as a person isn’t an overnight transformation. It often takes years of insecurities and confusion trying to find out where you fit. The thing is, the only person who can decide to be confident is you. It comes down to more than feeling a little shy and it takes more than one occasion to hear that you have a beautiful smile! Self-esteem and confidence are like giant brick walls: they take time to build, piece by piece. Boosting your self-confidence is going to take some time, but if you have the patience and the time to do it, you can find yourself feeling so much better about who you are. So, what can you do to make yourself feel more confident in life?

  1. Firstly, being positive is so key. Sit yourself down in front of a mirror and instead of thinking about choosing the right dental crown for that tooth that needs a little care, why not focus on the positive? You have one tooth that need fixing, and over 20 others that are bright and healthy. What about those eyes? They’re a beautiful colour and really stand out – those bags underneath? They’re just tiredness from staying up all night laughing with your friends. For every negative on your appearance that you can pick out, there’s always a positive to counteract it. Look into those positives and feel happy that you are sitting and looking in that mirror at your beautiful self.
  2. Throw back those shoulders and raise that chin while you work. While you’re reading this, roll your shoulders back and stretch. I bet you’ve been sat all hunched and tense while you work, right? It’s time to change that body language up. Sitting hunched over is not only a great way to get a back ache, it’s a way to make people think that you are unapproachable and are someone to be avoided. Let’s stop this impression and give a little eye contact. Fake it ‘til you make it!
  3. Shake things up in the wardrobe department. If you have that staple ‘jeans and tees’ outfit, change it up by tucking in your t-shirt and wearing some killer heels with your jeans instead of slouchy trainers. There’s a time and place for comfort, but a night out with the girls isn’t one!

Your whole life can be lived in a ray of sunshine, if you’re brave enough to step out of the shade. Raise a toast to your newfound confidence, and don’t let it go!
