Work takes up a huge part of our lives. You spend the bulk of your week there for most of your adult life. So it’s safe to say that you need to be happy where you are. You need to have a job that makes you feel content and that fills you will confidence. But not only that, you do also have to make sure that it contributes to your lifestyle overall. You’ll never want your job to be an issue. It shouldn’t cause you stress or have a detrimental effect on your health. So to make sure that doesn’t happen, not only do you need to be sure that you’re in the right job and on the right career path, you’ll want to take your health into your own hands too. So let’s take a look at how you can stay healthy at work.
- Drink Lots of Water
When it comes to being healthy in general, you know that you need to drink lots of water. But when you’re working in front of a laptop, in a stuffy office, or you’re on the road all day, you have to make sure that you’re taking care of your hydration levels – even in winter. So make sure that you have a bottle of water on your desk at all times.
2. Pack a Healthy Lunch
When you’re busy, it can be so easy to just grab a convenient lunch. And when you do this, you won’t always make the healthiest choices. Whether you realize it or not, when you choose to have unhealthy things, then it’s going to impact on your energy and productivity levels in the afternoons. So to make sure that you feel your best, make healthy lunches with proteins, fruits, and veggies at home, then take them into work.
3. Take Breaks
It’s easy to think that you need to work through and get something done, but you’ll exhaust yourself if you do. Especially if you’re looking at a screen all day. So not only do you need to take regular breaks for your eyes, you’ll want to get checked for prescription glasses too. Or update your prescription regular if you already use them. Breaks, in general, will help you to get a bit more energy for the next bout of work.
4. Build Relationships
It’s also healthy for you to have work friends. Health is holistic. It’s not just mental health and physical health, but it’s emotional health too. So make sure that you’re interacting with others and building relationships too.
5. Take Care of Your Teeth
This may seem like an odd one, but let’s think about it for a minute. You’ve had a nice healthy lunch, and maybe you had a lovely fresh juice to wash it all down, or maybe a coffee. You might have even had a few coffee’s through the day, perhaps a small snack. Whatever you eat or drink basically stays on your teeth until you clean them. To keep your teeth in their best condition, it’s a great idea to carry a portable brushing kit so you are able to give them a quick clean before you head back to work. Don’t want to end up needing dentures one day? Clean your teeth!
5. Switch Off!
And finally, you have to make sure that you’re able to let things go when you walk out of the door. These days, so many jobs expect you to be ‘on’ and available 24/7. And that’s okay if you can handle it, but if it’s stressing you out and damaging your health, you need to have boundaries. Burnout is real. And if you want to avoid having a breakdown, you need to have a balance between getting your work done and allowing yourself to switch off. So give yourself a break in the evenings and you’ll find that you’re more fired up and ready to work to your best come morning.
