I’m not going to lie, until a couple of years ago, I had a terrible diet. I know it’s not something I was alone in; so many people know that their diet is failing them in certain ways, but usually do nothing about it until they are forced to. As I have found, letting go of the less healthy things you love is tricky, but it’s so much easier for you to do that if you have ideas in place for how to replace them with healthier and equally tasty alternatives. Even if you don’t believe me just yet, it is possible to make this happen. Here are a couple of easy food upgrades that you definitely won’t regret making.

  1. Wild Salmon

Not enough people get their protein from fish, and that’s a problem because fish are much better for you than most types of meat, especially red meat. So if you want to eat less fatty meats but get more protein in your diet, salmon is the way to go. Choose wild over farmed salmon because it’s packed with more vitamins and minerals, and it’s also less likely to have chemical toxins in it.

  1. Goat Cheese

Most people don’t think to try goat cheese, but there are many good reasons to do exactly that. Soft goat cheese not only tastes great, it also has some benefits that other conventional types of cheese don’t offer. For a start, it’s calorie content is lower than cow’s cheese, which is perfect for anyone wanting to get a little healthier. Also, it has more vitamins and minerals packed into it that cow’s cheese.

  1. Brown Rice Sushi

Sushi is a very popular food, and Japanese food generally is becoming more popular around the world all the time. So getting the most out of this food in terms of its healthy content is a really good idea. One simple upgrade is to swap the white rice for brown rice. It makes sushi a 100% healthy food.

  1. Frozen Yoghurt

Sure, ice cream is great but it should come as no surprise to you that it’s terrible for your health. However, that doesn’t mean you need to give up frozen treats that taste great because frozen yoghurt is a wonderful alternative. When it’s made well, you can barely tell the difference between it and ice cream. Some people genuinely prefer it, and it’s so much better for you.

  1. Zucchini Pasta

Pasta is good for you in moderation, but if you make the mistake of eating too much of it or you get your portion sizes wrong, it can cause you to really pile on weight. You can avoid this predicament and eat more of your pasta if it’s made out of zucchini. It might sound strange, but you shouldn’t knock it until you try it because it actually tastes really good.

Improving your diet and making it more healthy than it is right now is not always easy. Many people are daunted by the prospect. However, these upgrades prove that you can eat better than ever and still enjoy your diet a great deal. It doesn’t have to be complicated in any way.
